Reed Hastings, the CEO of Netflix, believes that there is not enough happening on television, even with the upcoming 400+ new shows coming in 2016. Hastings believes his company needs to stay up-to-date, but also be constantly thinking of ways to become bigger, and produce new entertainment. He recently stated that he believes new material should move towards a more foreign market, such as Bollywood, and anime. Many people question Hastings ideas because they believe the quality of the entertainment could decrease. But, much of the success in the entertainment world has been through taking risks, and accomplishing goals that others said would never work.

The Netflix company has become more aggressive over the past years in developing programming, and the company spending over $5 billion for 2016’s content proves this. Hastings recently made a few statements about dipping his toes into the Bollywood scene, which many have had mixed reviews about. Hasting stated, “We’re hopeful that we’ll over time make a great Bollywood show, make a great anime show.”

Many of the mixed reviews come from a lot of users from the cultures of Bollywood, and anime, who are wondering if Netflix will capture the cultural aspects, and not create an Americanized version of their entertainment.

Hastings says, “Matt knows, making these shows is very challenging and I’m sure we’ll have issues over time.” The heads of Netflix plan to overcome any challenges, and see only a successful future by adding some new foreign entertainment options. We can only hope that their beliefs are correct, and we plan to see Bollywood and anime in the upcoming 2016 year. We applaud Netflix for trying to bring something to the table for everyone, by bringing new content, even if it is out of the producer’s comfort zones. Thanks for staying relevant Netflix, and the best of luck to you!
