What about watching using Apple TV ? You can’t type this stuff in can you?

      How I did it…
Put in URL with desired number sequence (code) on computer and when I saw a title of interest I remembered it.
I then used my Roku device which is connected to the TV for the NETFLIX website.
On Netflix I selected the search category and added the just remembered movie title.
After the title came up I added it to My List for future watching.
If anyone has an easier way, I’m all ears.

To a librarian this is just sad. Such categories exist and aren’t part of the access provided by Netflix? Netflix’s interest is promotion (and therefore control or at least guidance to what gets watched) rather than access. The librarian establishment although committed to access is committed to local patrons and survives on local funding and has almost no resources or infrastructure pointed nationally or globally.

Apparently there are no such codes for searching Netflix’s DVD offerings? Is that true?

    • Pedro Verdugo

      January 16, 2016 at 12:43 am

Agreed, sometimes some interesting category appears, but only for a limited time, next time it is changed, or the same movie they want to promote appears on every category.

Best thing to do once you found something you want to watch is add it to your list immediately because there is a chance you will never see it again later.

For those who have kids (and are using Netflix profiles), be sure your account is not set to a kid’s profile. Otherwise, it keeps redirecting you back to the Kids page. Took me a few tries to finally realize what was happening. :/

Getting The Most From Your WiFi Device

Stop Buffering On Netflix

Do you find yourself screaming at the screen when Netflix pauses at the 85 minute mark of a 90 minute horror movie to buffer the ending?

How about watching Making a Murderer and having the video stop while the audio keeps going? Sure, in a few seconds, the video catches up, but deep down, you’ve already forgotten what just happened because the little voice inside your head said, “Shit! Am I gonna have to start this thing all over again?

It’s midnight and I’ve got the dentist at 7am tomorrow morning…”

Well, if you’re one of the unfortunate few left in the country who has dial-up or you’re not forking over enough $$$ to your ISP for a decent bandwidth, you’re pretty much screwed. The best you can do is set your Netflix viewing options to AUTO or LOW and hope for the best.
However, if you’ve got a decent internet connection and you haven’t just completely pissed off the cable or satellite gods, you may be in luck. There are plenty of things you can do to avoid the Buffer Barrier or the High Plains of Pause.

The first thing you’re going to want to do is unplug your modem and your router. Yes, yes, I know. And no, you can’t just turn them off. You’ve got unplug them and leave them unplugged for 15 seconds. When you plug them back in, there’s a specific order you’ve got to follow, too: modem first, router next. Wait for the modem to boot up before you plug in the router. They’re taking tiny electric pulses and turning them into movies on your magic picture box—give them a minute.

In a lot of cases, those little steps will solve your problems. Cable and network engineers can’t tell you why, and scientists are baffled by the phenomenon, but in 75% of the cases, unplugging any device and plugging it back in fixes it.
If you try that and you’re still not happy with the results, here are some things to try:

  1.  Limit the number of walls and large furniture items the signal has to pass through. If your TV is at one end of the house and your router is at the other end, expecting a strong signal once it passes through a bookcase, a bathroom, the kitchen, and a few bedrooms is unrealistic.
  2.  Put your router near the center of the house on the top floor—or even in the attic. Radio waves travel best going down and laterally. If your router is sitting right next to your desktop computer, consider moving it. Power cords and computer wires can interfere with signals.
  3.  Switch to the 5GHz band if you’re using a dual band router. To find out if you’ve got this capability, go to your network settings on your device and check the available networks. If you see one with “-5G” after your network name, select it.
  4.  Invest in a wireless bridge/range extender. For $20 to $30, these little gadgets plug right into the wall and can double the range of your network.
  5.  Aluminum foil I know—I didn’t believe it either. It looks goofy, but it raised my wireless speed by 30Mbps. You’ll need about 12” of foil. Just tear it off, curve it slightly, and stand it up behind the router. You might not want to do this if your router is in a conspicuous place like the center of the dining room table, but if you’ve got it stuck off in a corner like most people, why not, right?
  6. Hardwire your device to your router. Most routers have at least two Ethernet connectors built in. If your device is close enough to the router (or you’ve got enough cable), you can skip WiFi altogether.
As a last resort, don’t forget to check your network speed in network settings on your desktop, laptop, or tablet. If you’re paying your ISP for 100Mbps but you’re only getting 20Mbps, a phone call is in order…followed by a long wait and lots of recordings.

How to Outwit Your Kids with Netflix

Betsey Davis

Netflix has gotten quite smart lately, and if you are a parent, you may want to know how.

As parents you may often be battling your kids to go to bed on time, because they want just five more minutes to stay up, or want to keep watching television. Believe me, we have all been there! With every excuse heard, Netflix may have a solution to outwit your children, and get them to bed in an easier and quicker way.

With development in progress with DreamWorks Animation Studios, Netflix has created miniature episodes of your children’s favorite television shows, from popular series like Dinotrux. So how is this a marvelous and helpful solution to outwitting your children? The episodes tell a story, just like the 30-60 minute shows normally would, but in only 5 minutes! Allowing your child to be fully satisfied by watching and listening to a whole story, but in only 5 minutes. How neat is that?

Each show not only tells a full story in 5 minutes, but also shares the best scenes of the longer episode, in this short amount of time. You can find these programs under the “5 Minute Favorites” section on the Netflix site. The shows are geared towards children aged 2-10, and have especially driven towards the children of the U.S. and Canada, because studies have shown that 61% of parents in these countries struggle with getting their children to go to bed at the time they wish.

Next time children ask to stay up for just 5 more minutes, you can let them watch one of Netflix’s new “5 Minute Favorites” and from proven studies, your child should be much more satisfied and willing to go to bed. Netflix is not only keeping us entertained, but now Netflix is making our lives easier! Just another perfect addition to the site. If you are not a subscriber, this may be a good reason to become one!

  3. Click “Netflix”
  4. Under “Netflix Settings” select “Reset”
  5. Press your home button

Error 12001

If you are an Android user, you may be experiencing Error 12001, which is similar to the iPhone errors.

  1. Go to Android Settings
  2. Go to Application Manager
  3. Select “Netflix”
  4. Tap on “Clear Data”
  5. Press your home button
  6. Return to Netflix

If this method still does not work, try closing out of Netflix, restarting your phone, and open Netflix again once your phone turns back on.
